I Approve This Message

I Approve This Message invites people to create a video in response to questions surrounding the scripted nature of presidential nominations and democracy in general. Tentative example questions include:

  • What are you doing during the Republican National Convention?
  • How is what you’re doing an act of democracy?
  • What do you wish you could do during the RNC and why?

These questions are designed to promote thinking about the nature of democracy and what participating in it looks like (whether it is voting, running for office, protesting or making street art) as well as the construction of the major party political conventions and they how these elements intersect. We hope to receive answers that range from crazy to insightful to funny, but ultimately, responses that are creative and thoughtful.

I Approve This Message is a partnership between the Walker Art Center, The UpTake, and The UnConvention that will launch June 5. The Walker Art Center and Intermedia Arts will host workshops throughout the summer to assist budding videographers. In addition to being shown online, the best works submitted will be screened at the Walker and other venues.
